About the Centre
Wellington Rape Crisis was established in 1977 by a small group of women who identified, and responded to, a community need by creating a support network for women survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Today the centre is a fully Incorporated Society called the Wellington Rape Crisis Centre (Inc).
Who do we work with?
We are available to work with all survivors of rape and sexual abuse and their family and friends. Our definition of rape and sexual abuse is very broad and includes any form of unwanted physical, verbal, or visual sexual contact.
The space we work from is a women and children safe space - for women and children only. Therefore our in-person support service and our counselling service are only available to women. Men are welcome to access our support services by phone or email. For more information on support for male rape survivors see our information section.
We do not work with people under the age of thirteen, but are happy to provide referral.
